Cathy Dixon began dancing at the age of three. She studied Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Pointe, Modern, Musical Theatre, Tumbling and Poms. She danced competitively on teams as well as in duets and as a soloist. Cathy was recipient of the Dancer of the Year Scholarship at the Dale Dance Academy . She was also awarded tuition scholarships twice by the Eastman School of Dance. She received her professional training in Chicago and her training continues today through conventions and professional dance organizations. Cathy is currently a member of The National Dance Association and American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. Her professional career as a choreographer has taken her to some interesting locations and genres.
Cathy has choreographed for REDKEN Beauty Products, talent pageants, local High School poms groups, Fox Valley Youth Theatre, Childrens Theatre of Alexandria in Louisiana, Ruidoso Community Theatre of New Mexico, Talisman Theatre Company and over 25 productions for the Childrens Theatre of Elgin. Cathy has received numerous choreography awards. She received rave reviews for her choreography of "West Side Story" and "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" at Dundee Crown High School, "Anything Goes" at St. Edwards High School, and "Grease" for the Fox Valley Theatre Company at Elgin Community College.
Cathy's teaching career began as an assistant teacher at Eastman School of Dance in Dixon , Illinois . Next, she ran the dance program at Elgin Community College and was awarded the Community Education Teacher of the Year. She ran the integrated dance and gymnastics programs at Acarath Montessori School in Schaumburg and the after school dance and gymnastics programs at Gifford Elementary School . She also serves as Director of Business with KACL Production Company for whom she stage managed three shows. Finally in 1994, Cathy founded the Dixon Dance Academy in West Dundee, Illinois and has nurtured her one woman show into one of the largest and most respected private sector schools in the state. She has led her eight competitive teams all over the state of Illinois, Las Vegas, Boston, New York and most recently Cancun, Mexico. Cathy continues to teach, direct the studio of 17 instructors and 5 office staff members, as well as produce and stage manage five annual productions at Elgin Community College and The Hemmens.
Cathy is a mother of two. Her reputation as an educator is disciplined yet fun. She loves teaching and choreographing for dancers of all ages!!!
